1.         SCRIPTURE VERSE FOR THE WEEK: ROMANS 10:9-10

… if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.” Romans 10:9-10

EDITOR: In the last few weeks I have really been thinking about this heart/mouth issue and came to the conclusion that we often say things we don’t believe (at all) and when things go wrong, we are quick to say “I don’t know why this is happening!” I believe that Father God did not give us this life just for fun, we have a purpose, and we are the only ones who can live out that purpose, but it depends on the choices we make about the life we are living!

2.         HEALTH TIP FOR THE WEEK: OXIDATION

Oxidation accelerates the enzymatic digestion of live food – which is actually a good thing, BUT, you want it to happen inside your body, not sitting on your counter or in your refrigerator. George Malkmus

EDITOR: Using an ordinary spinning basket (centrifugal) juicer accelerates oxidation outside the body, therefore it is better to use a masticating juicer, which pushes the juice out of the food and slows the oxidation process! Always try and drink your juice as fresh as humanly possible!

3.         HOME REMEDY HINT FOR THE WEEK: GARLIC & WOUNDS

Garlic, which you use in spices could prevent infection and therefore a bit of garlic meshed and placed on the cut or a bruise after cleaning thoroughly would wade off the bacteria.

EDITOR: It never stops amazing me how God made all these foods with so much more in mind than just food!

4.         HOUSEHOLD HINT FOR THE WEEK: EVERLASTING FENCE POSTS

I discovered many years ago that wood could be made to last longer than iron in the ground, but thought the process so simple and inexpensive that it was not worthwhile making any stir about it. I would as soon have poplar, basswood, or quaking ash as any other kind of timber for fence posts. I have taken out basswood posts after having been set seven years, which were as sound when taken out as when they were first put in the ground. Time and weather seemed to have no effect on them. The posts can be prepared for less than two cents apiece [circa 1860]. This is the recipe: Take boiled linseed oil and stir it in pulverized charcoal to the consistency of paint. Put a coat of this over the timber, and there is not a man that will live to see it rotten.

EDITOR: I have placed this tip before, but as a result of living in a forested area where we use plenty of wood for various purposes, I felt the need to replace this tip again! Try it!

5.         QUOTE FOR THE WEEK: DO WHAT IS AT HAND

Our grand business is not to see what lies dimly at a distance, but to do what lies clearly at hand – Thomas Carlyle

EDITOR: Too often we dream of what we can have rather than using what we do have to the glory of our heavenly Father!

6.             ARTICLE FOR THE WEEK: WHY REFINED GRAINS ARE SO DANGEROUS TO OUR HEALTH

WHAT IS A REFINED GRAIN?  by George Malkmus

The word “refined” when used in connection with grains means that the bran (fibre-rich outer layer) and the germ (nutrient-rich inner part) of the grain have been removed during milling. This processing leaves only the endosperm (middle part). While this process makes grains easier to prepare and consume, it removes vital nutrients along with the extremely important fibre part (bran).

Whole grains, because they have not gone through the refining process, contain the bran, the endosperm and the germ, and thus are good sources of fibre, B vitamins, iron, zinc, magnesium, vitamin E, and selenium. Whole grains also contain plant chemicals called phytochemicals, which have many health-promoting benefits. Refining grains, removes a significant percentage of these nutrients, plus much more.

Whole grains would include: whole wheat, barley, brown rice, bulgur, oat grouts, quinoa, rye, amaranth, buckwheat, millet and spelt.

Whole grains, if not consumed too frequently, do the body good. Whole grains are more nutritious than refined grains; they have more texture and flavour, as well as being more filling than refined grains. On the other hand, refined grain does the body bad! On this diet, whole grain cereals and breads, like Ezekiel 4.9; along with brown rice and other whole grains, as well as whole grain pastas are allowed.

Now that we understand the difference between whole grains and refined grains, we will devote the remaining part of this article talking about the dangers of refined grains, and why we should not consume them.

REFINED GRAINS ARE DEVOID OF ALMOST ALL FIBRE

In order to turn a whole grain of wheat into a refined grain, the outer shell, called the husk is removed.  This outer shell is the fibre part of the grain and is also called bran. There is a similar difference between brown rice and white rice in that the outer shell or husk of the grain has been removed. The outer shell or husks of grain play an important part in the digestion of grains.

Definitions from Webster

·                     Fibre: “bulk, roughage, the structural parts of plants that are wholly or partly indigestible, acting to increase intestinal bulk and peristalsis. . . “.

·                     Husk: “the dry external covering of seeds;” and “bran” as: “the partly ground husk of wheat or other grain, separated from flour meal by sifting.”

·                     Another definition of fibre is: “A substance in foods that comes from plants that help with digestion by keeping stools soft so that it moves smoothly through the colon.”

Now let me begin to share the importance of fibre. Between our mouth, where we take food into our body, and the anus where the digested food exits the body, are approximately 30-feet of tubing the food must pass through. Fibre plays a very significant role in this process! When we consume a whole grain, containing fibre, in its whole natural form as supplied by nature, the food moves quite rapidly through the alimentary canal. However, when most of the fibre has been removed, as it has been in all refined grains, it moves very sluggishly.

Two more definitions from Webster before bringing this thought to a conclusion:

·                     Alimentary Canal: “a tubular passage functioning in the digestion and absorption of food and the elimination of food residue, beginning at the mouth and terminating at the anus.”

·                     Peristalsis: “progressive waves of involuntary muscle contractions and relaxations that move matter along certain tube like structures of the body, as ingested food along the alimentary canal.”

CONCLUDING THOUGHTS

Refined grains, just like we saw with foods of animal origin, and refined sugar origin, are devoid of almost all fibre. Without lots of fibre, there is nothing to promote peristaltic action, and thus foods containing little or no fibre move very sluggishly through those 30 feet of tubing called the alimentary canal.

Animal flesh contains no fibre. It moves very sluggishly through those 30 feet of tubing in an atmosphere of approximately 100°F (37°C), taking anywhere from 3 to 4 days to exit the body. This slow movement in that 100°F (37°C) atmosphere causes the animal flesh to putrefy, creating all kinds of colon problems along with the bad body odour people try to cover up with antiperspirants. Most people, once they stop consuming fibreless animal source foods, no longer require an antiperspirant, and often experience digestive and colon problems simply going away.

The lack of fibre in refined grains contributes to constipation problems. And what do people turn to in an effort to alleviate constipation problems? Is it not drugs to artificially stimulate the colon, or laxatives containing fibre, the very fibre that has been removed when grains are refined?

The Standard American Diet (or for that matter Western diet) is almost completely devoid of fibre. When a person switches from the nearly fibreless SAD diet to the fibre-rich plant-based diet, a diet loaded with natural plant fibre, they usually see their constipation problems, as well as digestive and colon problems, disappear!

One more thing. Earlier, we learned the definition of fibre: “bulk, roughage, the structural parts of plants that are wholly or partly indigestible, acting to increase intestinal bulk and peristalsis…” Pay particular attention to the words “intestinal bulk.”

Today, many people wrestle with trying to control their weight, while nearly 70% of our population is considered overweight. An ever-growing segment of our population, including children, is being classified as obese.

Foods containing fibre provide bulk, which cause people to feel full long before they would feel full consuming refined foods (foods devoid of fibre).

Consuming foods that are high in fibre is an important ingredient in weight management. The only type of grains people should consume is whole grains, not only for their nutritional value and the prevention of constipation, but also to help in weight control.

ALL GARDEN (GENESIS 1:29) FOODS ARE RICH IN FIBRE!

It is only when a person goes outside the GARDEN to obtain their food that physical problems occur.

When you take a good look at our diet, you will find that it promotes exclusively Garden Foods, which are high in fibre. And when you look at the listing of foods we encourage people to avoid, you will find that it consists exclusively of foods that are devoid of fibre.

Almost every physical problem people experience today (other than accidents of course) are caused by consuming the fibreless foods found outside of the Garden!

On the flip side, we have received tens-of-thousands of testimonies from people reporting that when they stopped consuming these fibreless, outside the Garden foods, and went back to consuming the high fibre-rich Garden foods, they recovered from over 170 different physical problems.

Do you not think God knew what He was doing when He planted a Garden eastward of Eden before He ever created man? Do you not think God knew what He was doing when He gave mankind 30 feet of tubing called the alimentary canal, which required fibre to move food through that lengthy digestive tract?

Do you not believe God knew what He was doing when He placed His human creation into that Garden and told Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:29 that all of the foods necessary to nourish their physical bodies were to be found in that Garden?

I believe God most definitely did!

This editor adopted a 100% raw (living), plant based diet, loaded with fibre, along with large quantities of 100% raw (enzymatically alive), freshly extracted vegetable juices, after being told I had colon cancer in 1976. After one year on a 100% raw, fibre-rich diet, I added 15% cooked plant sourced foods back into my diet. It has been at least 85% raw plant sourced foods every day since 1977. I am so excited that as I approach my 77th birthday, I still have the physical abilities I had as a teen, and a mind superior to when I was a teen. Do you think my basically raw and FIBRE rich diet might have something to do with my current health? Please, for the sake of your own health and that of your family, let’s return to the Garden as the source of nourishment for the glorious physical bodies God has given each of us. Let’s come back to the diet God told us we should consume in Genesis 1:29. If we will do that, we will be able to stop eating according to the dictates of this world in which we live, which is the cause of most every physical problem we experience! “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. AND BE NOT CONFORMED TO THIS WORLD: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1-2

EDITOR’S NOTE: Amen and amen! Colin and I too have experienced great benefit from a 85% raw plant-based diet, with only small portions of cooked foods and I am so grateful to the Lord for showing us this way of eating!

7.                   RECIPE FOR THE WEEK: SUN GARDEN BURGER

3 tablespoons flax seeds, ground (see note)

6 tablespoons water

1 cup carrot pulp (see note)

1 cup sunflower seeds, ground

½ cup finely minced celery

6 tablespoons finely minced onion

2 tablespoons finely minced parsley

2 tablespoons finely minced red pepper

These burgers are delicious served in a cabbage leaf bun. Fold a cabbage leaf over the burger with any condiments you like or cut a few squares of cabbage from the large leaves and place the burger in between them. Serve your burger on a plate with some yummy Marvelous Mushroom Gravy. (See note) In a blender, combine the ground flax seeds and water; blend thoroughly. Immediately pour the mixture into a bowl and set aside. (Rinse the blender container immediately before the mixture left in it hardens and becomes difficult to wash out.) In a medium-sized bowl, thoroughly mix the carrot pulp, sunflower seeds, celery, onion, parsley, red pepper and Nama Shoyu. Add the flax seed mixture and mix thoroughly. Add more water if necessary so that the mixture can be formed into patties. Form into six ½-inch (1 cm) thick patties. Place immediately into the dehydrator and dehydrate for 4-8 hours, leave them in the sun until warm or place them in a warm oven for 10-15 minutes. Makes 6 patties.

Note: To grind flax seeds, place them in a clean electric coffee grinder and grind until powdered. To make carrot pulp, put carrots through a heavy-duty juicer, using a juicing screen. Use the pulp in the recipe; drink the juice or reserve it for another use.

ORGANIC INGREDIENTS ARE ALWAYS RECOMMENDED

My heart is so grateful to the Lord for the sales of Obedience and even though it is not going as fast as I would like to, I know that every single book that is sold will touch the life of somebody somewhere who needs this word!

I can testify that if it wasn’t for the Lord I would not be doing this in the first place and if He wasn’t in it, the books will not sell, so my heartfelt thank you to everybody who has bought a book and to everybody who will still buy any of my books!

The books are also promoted on the following web links: http://www.kcn.org.za/wordpress/?page_id=23

Five Simple Ways: Avoid GMOs

September 29, 2010 By: Kathy Cotterrell Category: Articles

(I felt the need to publish this article originally written by John Dill, citizen journalist, to all our readers as I have been publishing quite a few GMO articles of late)

Do you mind eating genetically modified foods? Did you know that more than 2/3s of all processed foods contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients? What's more, none of these GM foods are labeled as being genetically engineered. There are, however, 5 simple ways you can avoid the thousands of genetically modified products on the grocery shelves.

1 Buy Certified Organic
Buy food products that have the USDA Certified organic seal on their packaging. A food product can only bear the USDA Certified organic seal if it has been certified organic and contains at least 95% of organically-produced ingredients. The remaining 5% of the product is specifically required to be non-GMO. While this may change in the future, the USDA's organic certification makes it a fairly safe bet that that product will be free of GMOs.

2 Shop Local Sources
Buy locally grown and produced food from your local mom-and-pop farmer, which are commonly available at farmer's markets. Currently, the genetic engineering of crops largely remains a technology for large-scale, corporate "factory farms." Produce from small and family-scale organic farms typically have yet to be genetically modified.

By buying locally sourced food, you not only get to avoid GMO foods but also support your farming neighbors and boost your local economy.

3 Look for Products Labeled "Non-GMO"
Shop for products that bear the non-GMO label or read "GMO free." This includes meat products such as beef, dairy and poultry. Livestock are commonly raised on GMO feed and/or may be injected with growth hormones such as rbGH.

4 Avoid Brands Containing At Risk Ingredients
Avoid foods that contain ingredients or derivatives from corn, soy, canola and cottonseed, which are the four most widely grown genetically modified crops. It can be particularly difficult to avoid cooking oils that contain GM ingredients, because most of them are blended with cottonseed or canola. Unless the label specifically indicates that the contents are non-GMO, it is highly likely that it contains GMO ingredients. Similarly, soy milk, tacos and corn chips are likely to contain GMOs unless labeled otherwise.

5 Use the Non-GMO Project Shopping Guide
Download and shop using the "Non-GMO Shopping Guide" offered by the non-profit Center for Food Safety (See the Reference Section below). You can print it out at home on a regular 8.5 x 11 paper or download it as an iPhone application. The shopping guide includes a list of products that are truly non-GMO, as well as tips on how to avoid buying food products that are most likely made from or contain GMOs.

The Non-GMO Project offers third party verification of food products that have been produced in accordance with rigorous best practices for avoiding GMOs. You can visit the Project's website to look up participating brands and companies that have enrolled their products in the Non-GMO Project Verification Program.
